Waste Electrical and Electronic Product Recycling Regulations (Chinese WEEE) in China was issued on Feb 25, 2009. This new regulation indicates that Chinese government is vigorously carrying out a national monitoring program aiming at recalling and recycling of waste electronic products.
Chinese WEEE was publicized at March 5, 2009 and will be in effective from Jan 1, 2011 after it was signed by premier Wenjiabao. It aims to set the criterion of recalling and recycling of waste electrical and electronic products, reinforce resource use and circular economy development, protect environment and human being’s health. This regulation applies to all producers, importers, retailers, recalling business man and waste enterprises. All the products existed in the Waste Electrical and Electronic Product Treatment Directory are required to fulfill the regulation. The directory will be announced later. The producer or importer of involved electrical and electronic products should take responsibilities below:
• Pay for the fund established by Chinese government in dealing with waste electrical and electronic products;
• Use better green design and harmless material
• Provide contents and recycling information of dangerous substance content and its disposal on product or its manual. Otherwise a maximum fine of RMB 50000 will be given.
